Each person has the power to put one foot in front of the other…
Picture this for a second. How would you feel about running a 5K or 10K marathon without any type of training or preparation whatsoever? If the answer to that question is anything other than “I don’t think I can do this” you have lots and lots of self confidence. Or you may be a bit disillusioned with confidence. Either way, your body won’t be equipped to handle that without some preparation. You can’t run unless you walk first.
Preparation and making small goals are key to reaching the big goals that you have set in fitness or in life. It keeps you focused and less discouraged if you don’t see any initial results.
For example, you have a plan to lose 30 pounds in 3 months, something very doable even without a specific plan. It would be much harder, however, if you don’t have any small goals to keep you on pace. 30 pounds in 3 months equates to 10 pounds a month. So to make sure that you stay on track, you only have to lose 2.5 pounds every week to keep pace. See how that daunting goal of 30lbs has just been shrunk to something much more manageable? You can attack and make these small goals until you real the main goal you were looking to achieve.
This works in all aspects of life. Sometimes it’s so much easier to take everything a day at a time. Don’t worry about the future so much or dwelling on the past either. Keep your mind in the present and what has to be done that day. Before you know it, 3 months have gone by and 30 pounds have been lost.
Now If i ask you to run a 5K or 10K 30 pounds lighter than you were before, I can guarantee you would have no problems about how well you would do. You feel prepared and your body is more capable to handle the running.
You can get to wherever you want to be in life. Preparation and taking it a day at a time will get you there.
